Indescribable beauty, cute animals, and runs like clockwork | Switzerland

When asked my favorite place to travel, I usually reply wherever I am. However, I do have a special place in my heart for Switzerland, especially Kiental, and can’t wait to return. While reflecting on the trip there are a couple of travel tips I’d like to share: Be prepared with adapters for your electronics. Most places we stayed did have adapters we could borrow, but it was sometimes a challenge to get what we needed when we needed it. Take care that you not only have an adapter for regular plugs like your phone, but also a three-prong version for items like a laptop. The cheese, yogurt, and chocolate in Switzerland were amazing, but can have a negative effect on the traveler’s digestive system. TMI…? Just a fact to be aware of – you may want to take something along in your first aid kit to get things moving again ūüôā Speaking of first aid kits – mole skill was invaluable with the amount of hiking we were doing – it’s the best for protecting blisters so you can continue to hike. And, the number one tip I give on every blog, but have yet to master – do […]

Zurich Switzerland

From Kiental we took the bus and train back to spend our last night in Switzerland discovering Zurich. I usually prefer more remote, rural areas over cities, but I loved the feel of Zurich Рthe beautiful historic buildings against modern conveniences and architecture; the cleanliness, neatness and precision; interesting, eclectic, fashion conscious people with dogs just as interesting and stylish; families, friends, and lovers enjoying the warm spring afternoon and evening around Lake Zurich. One afternoon and evening were really not enough time to enjoy Zurich, but we had to leave early the next morning for Dublin. Anyway, as much as we loved the town, staying here long would definitely put a strain on the budget. Still, we will look forward to another visit to Switzerland someday ~ maybe next spring?

The Hills Are Alive . . . | Kiental, Switzerland

“The hills are alive with the sound of music”¬†came to mind often during the past few days in Kiental, Switzerland. Actually the mountains and hills felt alive. As the snow melted from the peaks we could hear¬†the sounds of rushing water cascading down waterfalls and over rocks in the streams; birds happily singing to welcome spring; the village church bells chiming every 30 minutes¬†announcing¬†the time; and cow bells (something I’ve only heard in Switzerland) along with¬†an occasional moo. We even heard cuckoo birds in the trees. I never saw¬†one, but imagined them in their little clocks popping out to say “cuckoo“. ¬†Add to that the tranquility of being in the quiet little village of Kiental with no TV and just the sounds of nature¬†made the past few days feel like a fairy tale. Actually this magical time at¬†Kientalerhof¬†brought all five of my senses to life. The amazing Yoga Nidra and Human Movement classes with Glenn Black while here helped¬†me to relax, let go, stop thinking so much, and breath in the prana and life energy of these beautiful surroundings with heightened awareness. The panoramic views were so much to take in –¬†photos and words can’t do it justice. The sights¬†were […]

Zug Switzerland

It seems a little surreal that I am actually in Europe – for the first time ever! Considering traveling 12 hours and 40 minutes plus a 7 hour time difference, it really wasn’t that bad to overcome the jet lag. Even though it’s always hard to sleep on a plane, I did get a little rest on the overnight flight from Chicago to Zurich. Swiss Air is probably the most¬†accommodating airline I’ve ever flown: we had our own personal display screen with several great movies to choose from; were served dinner; and the crew could not have been nicer. The trip through customs in Zurich was quick and easy before hopping the train for a 50 minute ride¬†to Zug, Switzerland. The train system was simple and a helpful resident standing on the corner when we got off the train guided us in the right direction for the short walk the Hotel L√∂wen¬†in the center of the old town area. We only had a few hours for an overnight stay before traveling on to our final destination in Kiental, Switzerland. Thank you to our friend Tarek for recommending we spend the time in Zug – ¬†a small town located in the […]
